Or perhaps you prefer to forego traditional registry items or want a mix of both money and tangible gifts. In either case, a honeymoon registry fund is a practical option if you're planning on taking a post-wedding trip. In a fall survey of 1,500 recently married Zola couples, we found that 57% couples took a honeymoon right away, 39% were planning on taking a honeymoon later, and 4% were skipping a post-wedding trip. So, unless you're one of the latter set, a honeymoon fund may be a perfect idea. \n\nHere’s what to keep in mind when crossing “how to create a [honeymoon fund registry](https://www.zola.com/shop/honeymoon-cash-funds)” off your wedding planning to-do list.\n\n## 5 Tips on how to set up a honeymoon fund \n\nThe first step in creating [your honeymoon](https://www.zola.com/expert-advice/affordable-honeymoon-destinations) fund is deciding where you’d like to go. Not only will this determine what sort of activities and items you request, but it will help your guests feel involved. With so many amazing places to see, it can be hard choosing where to go to celebrate your marriage. So, sit down as a couple and turn the decision into a fun date night! Make a list of places that you both want to go, and after selecting a date that works, narrow down your options. If you're curious what our polled Zola couples said,\n26% honeymooned within the US, and 74% headed outside of the US. No matter where you're going, a fund can help you get there easier.\n\n### 1. Plan for and set a budget for your dream honeymoon.\n\nOnce you've picked a dream honeymoon destination, take some time to map out your trip itinerary. You’ll need to decide how long you want to travel for, where you want to stay, and what you want to do. In order to do that, you’ll want to [create a budget.](https://www.zola.com/expert-advice/how-to-set-your-wedding-budget)\n\nOnce you have a budget, it’ll be easier to figure out what hotels you’d like to stay in and how many lavish dinners you can afford. Be sure to budget for things like pet sitters, travel gear, and potential fees, such as passport renewals, checked bags, or transportation from the airport.\n\nNeed ideas on where to go? Our polled Zola couples went to the following locations outside of the US:\n- Italy - 55 couples\n- Mexico - 47 couples\n- Greece - 28 couples\n- Dominican Republic - 16 couples\n- Jamaica - 14 couples\n- Spain - 12 couples\n- France - 10 couples\n- St. Lucia - 9 couples\n- Aruba - 9 couples\n- Portugal - 8 couples\n- Thailand - 7 couples\n- South Africa - 6 couples\n- Croatia - 5 couples\n- Barbados - 5 couples\n- Maldives - 4 couples\n\nOur polled Zola couples also honeymooned in following locations inside of the US:\n- Hawaii (including specific islands like Big Island, Kauai, Maui, Oahu, Kona, Lanai) - 33 couples\n- Disney World, FL - 5 couples\n- Gatlinburg, TN - 5 couples\n- Asheville, NC - 4 couples\n- Sedona, AZ - 4 couples\n- Puerto Rico - 4 couples\n- Key West, FL - 3 couples\n- Myrtle Beach, SC - 3 couples\n- Orlando, FL - 3 couples\n- Moab, Utah - 3 couples\n\n### 2. Add honeymoon experience gifts.\nNow, it's time to decide what you want to do while you're away! Since guests will be donating to specific activities (like going to a museum or taking a cooking class), you’ll want to get an idea of the activities available and how much these experiences cost. While you don’t need an exact number, a ballpark will help ensure that you budget properly.\n\nInstead of just asking for a large, lump sum of money, we recommend splitting funds up into smaller, more personalized gifts. Guests will love contributing to [specific honeymoon experiences](https://www.zola.com/expert-advice/what-types-of-experiences-should-i-add-to-my-registry), such as a wine tasting in Italy or a couples massage in Cabo.\n\n### 3. Add a traditional wedding gift registry.\nWhile you might prefer a cash registry contribution, some guests would rather give you something tangible. Even if you hint that you want donations to your honeymoon fund, there will be a few people who head to the store to get something you can unwrap. To avoid being gifted unwanted items, register for a few gifts in addition to your honeymoon fund. Think about things you might use on your trip, such as travel pillows, luggage, plug converters, or even gift cards. \n\nChances are that there are a few items you’ll need to purchase before jetting off. Register for them, and give guests the chance to purchase something tangible—while still supporting your honeymoon goals. At Zola, you can register for both a honeymoon fund and actual gifts in one convenient location. \n\n### 4. Withdraw the cash (or transfer it into your bank account.) \nWhat makes a honeymoon fund so simple and flexible is that your guests aren’t actually purchasing the items, but rather giving you money to use toward your honeymoon. Whenever you decide, you can transfer the funds to your bank account. While the first transfer usually takes up to 10 business days, following transfers shouldn’t take more than two to four.\n\n### 5. Account for a service fee (if there is one.) \nCreating a honeymoon fund is easy and cost-effective. Since all credit card companies charge a transaction or processing fee to transfer money online, you can expect whatever company you utilize to charge a service fee. At 2.4 percent, Zola’s is officially the lowest, and we never take anything extra (or make money off your funds)—it’s all yours to keep! You can either have guests pay the fee with their contribution or you can absorb it on their behalf. Either way, rest assured that you're getting the best rate around at Zola. \n\n![ubud](//images.ctfassets.net/77l22z9el0aa/4un9QzioSENPPb0bjbU2Ex/01f3b22c08e09c6f886dd64c2ac73394/ubud.jpg)\n\n## Honeymoon fund tips for your wedding website \n\nYour wedding website is one of the best tools at your disposal. Not only does it make all the information about your wedding accessible, but it’s a great way to help your guests learn more about you. \n\n### Tell your guests how you met.\n\nWhile some of your guests probably know the story of how you met, others might not know all the details. Whether it’s parents’ friends or estranged family members, giving guests the chance to read more about how your partnership came to be is a wonderful way to personalize your wedding experience. Outline how you met, touching upon anything funny or out of the ordinary (just be sure to keep it clean—even grandparents know how the internet works) that will make your guests smile.\n\n### Explain your love story.\nWhat do you love about each other? What makes you thankful to be marrying your SO? How did the proposal happen? Outline what your journey has been like together and what you hope your future looks like. Your guests will feel much more connected to you after learning why they should be so excited that you’re tying the knot. \n\n### Talk about your honeymoon.\nDeciding where to go on [your honeymoon](https://www.zola.com/expert-advice/best-honeymoon-destinations) is a big deal, and your guests are likely eager to learn more about your trip. If you’re setting up a honeymoon fund, giving friends and family the details will help them feel included. Plus, they’ll be much more likely to donate if they know where you’re going and why you want to go there, so don’t hold back.\n\nDid you two talk about going to Hawaii on your first date? Do you both have a passion for Mexican food? Explain how you decided on your honeymoon destination and what you’re looking forward to doing while you’re there. Chances are, there will be a few people who have already traveled there and would be happy to donate to certain experiences and/or give some must-know advice. Others might want to donate so you can experience something that they loved or always wanted to try.\n\n![belize](//images.ctfassets.net/77l22z9el0aa/1GlFx4Fc50kLdDaRR5YEmB/8a1dd34adcb1209b80d4273afd215b3a/belize.jpg)\n\n## Ways to personalize your honeymoon fund \nMake your honeymoon fund special! By adding specific details, giving your wedding guests insight as to why you’re so excited about the trip, and showing them just how much their contributions mean to you, you’re more likely to get donations to enjoy on your vacation. \n\n### Add specific honeymoon experiences.\nYou don’t have to know every single thing you’re going to do on [your honeymoon](https://www.zola.com/expert-advice/honeymoon-planning-mistakes), but you should have an idea of a few key activities or attractions. In addition to admission to must-see spots, add things like boat rides, plane tickets, and lodging to your fund. Your guests will enjoy feeling like they’re gifting you a specific experience versus just handing you a check. The more specific you are with what you’re doing, the better your odds of people contributing.\n\n### Write descriptions.\nZola makes it super simple to create a honeymoon fund, and depending on where you’re going, there’s a good chance we already have a template laid out for you. That being said, making your trip and descriptions even more personal will help your guests understand the importance of your honeymoon. Have you always dreamed about dining under the Eiffel Tower? Is your SO a wine connoisseur and can’t wait to tour a vineyard? Insert your personality into the descriptions to better encourage your guests to donate. \n\n### Explain your trip.\nWhere are you going? When are you going? Why are you going? Give your guests the details surrounding your trip. Is this a way to relax after the wedding, or is this an exciting adventure before having children? The more personal and honest you are, the better your friends and family will feel about contributing to your honeymoon fund. \n\n### Add photos.\nA picture is worth a thousand words, and engaging photos in your honeymoon fund will help draw friends and family to the page. While you might not have destination photos (especially if you’re honeymooning somewhere new!), Zola has a large selection of stock images to choose from. Additionally, for things such as walking tours, dining, or even bottles of wine with dinner, try to find photos of you and your SO together to make your registry more personal.\n\n### Keep your wedding guests updated.\nYour guests want to know that you’re actually using the funds for what they contributed, so keep friends and family updated as you plan your trip. In your thank you notes, tell them when you booked your flights, or go out of your way to ask for dining or lodging suggestions. Additionally, if something comes up and the trip has to be postponed or canceled, be upfront about it. Chances are that your contributors will understand if you decide to use the money for a down payment on a house instead of [a honeymoon](https://www.zola.com/expert-advice/when-should-we-go-honeymoon), but it’s better that they hear it directly from you.\n\n### Make your guests feel comfortable.\nCreating a honeymoon fund is a no-brainer for modern couples as it's probably something you're already familiar with. However, your grandparents and older friends and family may find it odd that you don't have a traditional gift registry. Asking for cash funds can be a bit new for some, so doing all of the steps above can help make everyone feel comfortable with cash funds. Be available to answer questions about the process (such as them contributing via a credit card) to put everyone's mind at ease.\n\n![Who Pays for the Honeymoon](//images.ctfassets.net/77l22z9el0aa/3MKgyKVFND66deOZ39y0CB/1cc2acdb36c06860b044242b985313f2/hero_stocksy3.jpg)\n\n## 4 Best honeymoon fund registry examples \n\n### 1. Honeyfund\n[Honeyfund](https://www.honeyfund.com/) is a popular cash fund option where you can register for contributions to a home down payment, charitable donations, and, of course, your honeymoon plans. There aren't any setup fees, but you will get hit with a fee for automatic deposits. Honeyfund is exactly what it says it is—a fund for your dream honeymoon. So, you'll need to find another provider to host your actual wedding website.\n\n### 2. Traveler's Joy\nThis online registry site is very user-friendly and makes it possible to set up a honeymoon fund registry in a matter of moments. The downside? [Traveler's Joy](https://www.travelersjoy.com/) charges fees for any credit card gifts.\n\n### 3. Joy\n[Joy](https://withjoy.com/honeymoon-registry/) is one of the newer honeymoon registry sites, and they market themselves as a zero-fee honeymoon fund option. You can receive monetary gifts through PayPal, Venmo, or Cash App, as well as traditional registry gifts from brands like Cuisinart and KitchenAid. Joy also has a partnership with Spur Experiences that makes it easy to find excursions and activities in various locations and add them to your registry.\n\nDeciding to have a honeymoon fund is a personal decision. While the concept is still fairly new, more and more modern couples are opting to create a cash wedding registry, as opposed to (or in addition to) a traditional [wedding registry.](https://www.zola.com/wedding-registry) \n\n### 4. Zola\nWhile there are plenty of honeymoon funds on the market, there’s one that stands about the rest—and that’s Zola.\n\nZola is a gret option for your [honeymoon fund registry](https://www.zola.com/wedding/onboard/registry) because it's a one-stop-shop. You can use Zola to create a customized wedding website, as well as set up both your honeymoon fund and traditional gift registry. From there, you can link everything together, making it easy for guests to not only get the details for your big day and RSVP to your wedding, but also contribute to your honeymoon fun—all in one place. \n\n## How to create a honeymoon fund on Zola \n\nReady to get started? Follow the steps (and click the highlighted links) below!\n1. Set up your [Zola wedding registry](https://www.zola.com/wedding/onboard/registry). \n2. Then, it's simple to set up a [honeymoon registry fund](https://www.zola.com/faq/115002839171-how-do-we-register-for-a-honeymoon-or-a-cash-fund-).\n3. Choose what you'd like to add to your [honeymoon fund](https://www.zola.com/shop/honeymoon-cash-funds), such as airline tickets, resort stays, and experiences, such as museum entrances or a snorkeling session.\n\nZola also makes it easy to create a honeymoon fund that truly works for you and your partner, whether that means creating a cash registry (which can be deposited directly to your Venmo account) or adding your dream honeymoon adventures and activities—like jet ski rentals, surf lessons, or wine tasting.\n\n## Honeymoon registry etiquette FAQs \n### What information should you include?\nOn your online honeymoon registry, include:\n- Your honeymoon destinations\n- The month of the trip\n- Any activities or excursions you're planning to do\n- The reason you picked the location(s)\n\n### Should you put your honeymoon fund information on your invitations?\nIt’s never proper etiquette to include [cash registry information](https://www.zola.com/faq/115002839171-how-do-we-register-for-a-honeymoon-or-a-cash-fund-) on a wedding invitation or save the date. That being said, most wedding guests do want to know where you’re registered/how to give a wedding gift for the big day. So, include a link to your honeymoon fund on your [wedding website](https://www.zola.com/wedding-planning/website) so guests can easily find it. \n\nLoved ones will want to start contributing once you get engaged, so set up a honeymoon fund or registry ASAP. In addition to wedding presents, people (especially gift givers!) like to give gifts to celebrate your engagement and wedding shower. So, having a registry set up makes it easy for them to get gift ideas find a present you actually want. While you don’t need to have your honeymoon fund completed hours after the proposal, get started sooner rather than later. That way, you won’t end up with four toasters—instead of the plane tickets that you *really* wanted.\n\n### Should you have a traditional registry in addition to your honeymoon fund?\nWhile plenty of guests will happily contribute to your honeymoon fund, some will prefer to get you tangible gifts instead. So, add a few items in case someone would rather wrap up a present instead of donate to your trip. This is especially important for [wedding showers](https://www.zola.com/expert-advice/wedding-shower-guide), since a main part of the festivities usually involves watching the bride-to-be open gifts. Luckily, Zola makes it easy to register for both a honeymoon fund as well as gifts, all in the same place. Even if you’d prefer a cash gift, add gifts that guests can purchase (20 or so items is a good target).\n\nWhat’s great about a honeymoon fund registry is that you’re not forced to spend the money on anything in particular. While guests donate to different aspects of your trip (such as airfare, lodging, dining, and activities), they’re not actually purchasing those items.\n\nInstead, the money can be withdrawn by the couple to be used for their honeymoon. This way, if you discover that the hotel you were going to stay at is closed or the museum you wanted to visit is too crowded, you won't lose out on any funds. When you write them a thank you note, just make sure to let them know what you [used the cash fund] for (https://www.zola.com/expert-advice/50-fun-and-useful-ways-to-use-your-wedding-cash-fund) instead!\n\n### What happens if your trip is canceled?\nEven though we hope your dream honeymoon goes according to plan, life happens. Perhaps you opted to change destinations, had to reschedule your trip, or decided to use the money for something else, like a home down payment. Whatever the reason, if the original trip is no longer happening, you won’t lose the money you were gifted.\n\nWhether you decide to forego tangible items all together or select a mix of both, Zola makes it easy to register for everything—from gifts and experiences to travel—in one convenient location. However, those lavish travel accommodations (read: business and first-class seats) come thanks to some serious dough—and [after the wedding](https://www.zola.com/expert-advice/whats-the-average-cost-of-a-wedding), dishing out top dollar for a plane seat to your honeymoon destination might not be in the budget. \n\nWhat if we told you there are ways to cut corners and score business class flight seats for a cheaper price. Keep reading as we unpack six tricks of the airline trade that may lead to a serious upgrade for your honeymoon travels. \n\n## Never buy your business class ticket upfront. \nUnless your mindset is one hundred percent, ‘I’m not flying economy on my honeymoon.’ Or you [successfully budgeted](https://www.zola.com/expert-advice/5-ways-cut-wedding-costs) anywhere from $5,000-20,000 to fly to your destination, don’t buy business class tickets right away. There’s no downgrading after that and it’s better to explore your options before committing to such significant spending.\n\n![INLINE PexelsNappy 1080x720](//images.ctfassets.net/77l22z9el0aa/2riKH9Dle6GieQ0fDsD0CP/cdf82377d840f1be6c20005ecca9c0d1/INLINE_PexelsNappy_1080x720.jpg)\n*Photo Credit* // Nappy - Pexels\n\n## Find the cheapest fare, then upgrade. \nUsually, the bulk price of the business class seat includes the price of an inflated (standard economy) flight ticket. So, instead of finding the most expensive economy seat and tacking on the extra charges for business class, flip the logic.\n\nFind the [cheapest economy fare](https://www.zola.com/expert-advice/save-money-on-honeymoon) flight and work backward to upgrade that ticket to business class. Why? The price difference to upgrade an existing ticket to business is substantially less than purchasing a business class fare upfront. \n\nNote: For this exercise, __avoid buying flights on third party sites__ like Booking.com or Expedia. Oftentimes airlines do not work with third-party vendors to upgrade the ticket, and legally the tickets are not theirs to manipulate. \n\n## Upgrade with points.\nAirline points (or miles) are like a magical currency to exchange for the vacation of your dreams. So, they’re perfect for upgrading your honeymoon travel. If you are loyal to a certain airline or travel rewards program, be sure to ask if they take points for seat upgrades. \n\nOf course, each airline handles the process differently. So, you’ll want to be aware of your airline’s particular policy ahead of time. This way, you can start accruing points/miles early on and reach a more elite status that’s more likely to lead to an upgrade.\n\nNot sure how to collect or redeem points? Read [How to Use Points to Save on Your Honeymoon](https://www.zola.com/expert-advice/save-money-on-honeymoon).\n\n## Bid your price.\nImagine playing, ‘what are the odds’, but instead of a silly dare, you’re bidding on how much you’re willing to pay to fly business class on your honeymoon? Believe it or not, it’s a real thing, and airlines like United (and their partners), Hawaiian Airlines, and Virgin like to take part in it. \n\nHere’s how it works: After you purchase a flight ticket directly from the airline, you’ll get a ‘bid an upgrade’ email a few weeks later. The email will basically ask how much you’re willing to spend to fly business class. \n\nWhile this might sound fun and exciting—and it really can be effective—there are a few drawbacks. First, this doesn’t guarantee a ticket for both you and your partner. Second, once you bid a price, there’s no way to go back and alter your number. If the airline accepts your bid, your money is taken directly from your account or credit card on file. So, be sure that you’re sure about your amount and that you have the money available to front the cost if you do get lucky.\n\n## Check prices 24 hours beforehand. \nIf business class is looking a little lonely, airlines may dramatically dip their prices for flight tickets. In the company’s mind, a flight is taking off whether or not business class seats are filled. To hopefully avoid the sunken cost, though, airlines will sometimes reduce the price of business class seats to earn some extra money last minute.\n\nCheck your flight’s seat availability (on the seat option map) and then also check ticket prices for the open business class seats on that same flight. An upgrade may only mean a small (relatively speaking) fee. \n\nThere are a few downsides to checking just 24 hours ahead of takeoff. For one, it doesn’t guarantee business class seats at all. Alternatively, you may only be able to upgrade your seat and not your partner’s. It’s possible that you can only score business class one way or leg of your journey (instead of round trip). \n\n![INLINE PexelsSkitterPhoto 1080x720](//images.ctfassets.net/77l22z9el0aa/2H4Rvg0Gg5ilRfkJTO3SkG/1762a863c78422ff1f36b339aa3fe1af/INLINE_PexelsSkitterPhoto_1080x720.jpg)\n*Photo Credit* // Skitter Photo - Pexels\n\n## Check prices at the gate. \nIf you’re really in it for the thrill (or just really don’t mind economy), you can try asking for an upgrade at the gate. If upgrades or seats are available, you could get a business class seat for a fraction of the original price (or even for free, depending on your status with the airline).\n\nTo help your case, check-in early and in person. Business-class upgrades are typically awarded to loyalty members in the order they check-in. \n\nWhen it comes to travel logistics, it pays (literally) to learn the savvy tricks that can earn you and your partner perks like business class seats. So relax, lay-flat your chair, and enjoy the start of a fantastic honeymoon.","tag":"Inspiration","widget1":{"marketingModule":{"tag":"EA_Masterbrand"}},"nextUp":[{"excerpt":"Your honeymoon is your big chance to relax and enjoy newlywed life. Hence why some couples choose to leave for their honeymoon immediately after the last glass of the champagne is poured. Enjoying a relaxing trip together right after [the hard work of the wedding](https://www.zola.com/expert-advice/tasks-before-honeymoon) is complete is certainly tempting, but it’s not for everyone. \n\nA delayed honeymoon—waiting a few days, weeks, or even months post-wedding—is another popular option. It can give you more time to save up again after endless wedding spending depletes your funds. It can also give you something else to look forward to after the excitement of your nuptials is over. \n\nHere’s are the [honeymoon planning](https://www.zola.com/expert-advice/honeymoon-planning-101-what-you-need-to-know) tips you need to know to decide when the best time to go on your honeymoon.\n\n## Should we leave right after the wedding?\nAnnie Banks-Mackenzie did it in *Father of the Bride*—and you can, too! If you want to make a grand exit, going straight to the airport as the wedding ends is certainly a luxe way to start your honeymoon. \n\n### The Good\nAn immediate start to your honeymoon means you can rest and recuperate post-wedding without worrying about reality (your messy apartment, work, etc.). Instead, you start married life enjoying your partner’s company in a beautiful destination (and hopefully with room service for a few days) \n\nThat’s exactly why Mitch Glass, founder of the travel blog, [__Project Untethered__](https://www.projectuntethered.com/), chose to take his honeymoon right after his wedding last year. “I think from a relationship standpoint, the perfect time for a honeymoon is right after the wedding,” he says. “My wife and I were exhausted after weeks of stressful wedding planning, and our honeymoon gave us time to unwind, re-connect, and kick off our marriage with something special.” \n\nIf you want to extend the bliss of your wedding celebrations, take off for your honeymoon ASAP. \n\n![INLINE GodsWeddingPhotographer 1080x720 Amara&Hon (1)](//images.ctfassets.net/77l22z9el0aa/3An2jcWvgoACLDLjGnwp3U/6065ee7e0bec805d6e8f1a5af24ec2bd/INLINE_GodsWeddingPhotographer_1080x720_Amara_Hon__1_.jpg)\n*Photo Credit* // God's Wedding Photographer\n\n### The Bad\nOn the other hand, leaving for your honeymoon immediately after the reception can be challenging, too. On top of all the last-minute details that take place in the week before the wedding, it’s stressful to even think about packing and planning for the honeymoon, too. \n\nThat’s what happened when Analisa Jolley, founder of the honeymoon blog, [__The Honeymoon Vagabonds__](https://thehoneymoonvagabonds.com/), took her honeymoon right after the wedding. “We thought it would help us decompress after the stressful months of planning our wedding. I was dead wrong,” she says. “Not only did this make planning that much more stressful, but since we left the day after the wedding we also didn’t get to open any wedding gifts and some of the gifts we could have used while on our honeymoon like money and gift cards.” \n\nGiving yourselves a week after the wedding to rest up at home and take time to pack and regroup before the fun of the honeymoon starts may be your best bet, she thinks. That way, you won’t have to worry if your partner has their passport and swimsuit packed while you’re in the middle of your vows.\n\n## Should we wait a couple of days? \nIf leaving directly after your big day sounds overwhelming—but you don’t want to postpone your perfect honeymoon for too long—you could opt to wait to leave for your trip until a few days after your wedding. \n\n### The Good\nLet’s be real—the ceremony and wedding reception can be exhausting. And for some couples, the thought of taking off for a big trip directly after such an exhausting day—even if it is the trip of a lifetime!—just does not sound like much fun.\n\nBy waiting a couple of days to leave for your honeymoon, you give yourself (and your partner!) a time to rest and recharge after all the wedding day-busyness. This can give you the energy that you need to feel fully present and engaged in your honeymoon—which is especially important if you’re planning a more active trip (for example, a hiking trip in Hawaii). \n\n![INLINE SimpsonPhotography 1080x720 Lindsey&Kyle](//images.ctfassets.net/77l22z9el0aa/1qhDeX3ZczEJFlb3fdOrJd/975380a5050b62a8407de06b530fcc7f/INLINE_SimpsonPhotography_1080x720_Lindsey_Kyle.jpg)\n*Photo Credit* // Simpson Photography\n\n### The Bad\nIf you choose to postpone your honeymoon for even a few days, you’ll have to contend with reality and the normal grind of your day-to-day life. For example, you may have to go back to work for a few days—or, at the very least, you’ll have to deal with household responsibilities. While you can certainly continue to revel in wedded bliss together with your spouse, the excitement may wear off more quickly once you’re back to your regularly scheduled programming—which means that you may head into your honeymoon less excited and “on a wedding high” than you would if you took off the morning after your wedding night.\n\n## Should we few months—or even a year?\nThere’s no hard and fast rule that says you need to go on your honeymoon right after your wedding—or even soon after your wedding. In fact, many couples choose to postpone their honeymoon for months (or even up to a year!).\n\n### The Good\nThere are a lot of pros to significantly postponing your honeymoon trip—starting with scheduling. Many people take time off for their weddings—which may include a few days before the wedding (for setup and pre-wedding events like the rehearsal dinner) and after (to rest and recharge after all the wedding festivities). Many people don’t have the flexibility or PTO to take off an additional chunk of time for their honeymoon right after their wedding—in which case, it would make sense to postpone.\n\nAnother perk of pushing your honeymoon back a few months is that your [honeymoon destinations](https://www.zola.com/expert-advice/best-honeymoon-destinations) aren’t limited to the time of year you get married. For example, let’s say you’re getting married in July—but your idea of a dream honeymoon is a week skiing the slopes in Colorado. If you didn’t postpone your trip, you wouldn’t be able to make your honeymoon dreams a reality (not much snow in Colorado in July!). But by pushing your honeymoon to December or January, you could have the honeymoon that you want—no compromises necessary.\n\nThe final reason you may want to consider waiting a few months (or a year!) for your honeymoon is financial. Weddings are expensive—and many couples don’t have the financial resources to pay for their weddings and a big trip immediately after. Postponing the honeymoon a few months will give you plenty of time to replenish your savings account—which will put you in a position to actually enjoy your honeymoon (instead of worrying about the costs). \n\n### The Bad\nThere’s one major downside to scheduling your honeymoon months (or a year) after your wedding. And that downside is that, by the time the trip rolls around, it may not feel like a honeymoon anymore.\n\nThe longer you wait to take your honeymoon, the further removed you are from your wedding day. Months (or a year) into your marriage, you’re not necessarily going to feel like newlyweds; you’re going to feel like a married couple. And as more time passes—and you settle more into your marriage—the more you run the risk of your honeymoon feeling like just a normal vacation.\n\n## What else should we consider?\nRealistically, the best time to take your honeymoon may come down to a few different factors. Here are a few more to consider.\n- __When can you get the best deal?__ To keep the budget realistic, consider when you can get the best deal on flights and hotels and travel then. If you get married on a Saturday evening, you might get a better deal on a hotel and flight if you wait until Tuesday to leave. Set up Google flight alerts and book well in advance to get the best deals. If you’re traveling to a trendy destination, you may save money by avoiding its busy season and visiting a few months later.\n- __How's the weather?__ You may have chosen September on the East Coast for a gorgeous fall wedding, but it’s now [__hurricane season__](https://www.zola.com/expert-advice/plan-a-honeymoon-hurricane-season) in the Caribbean. Waiting a few months for peace of mind may work best in cases like this. \n- __How much time can you take off work?__ You and your partner may have already taken a few days (or a week) off to prepare for the wedding. You may want to delay your trip until you’re both free to set aside a longer [amount of time for the honeymoon](https://www.zola.com/expert-advice/how-long-should-a-honeymoon-be). You can always take a mini-moon or a weekend road trip together in the meantime. \n- __What do the actual travel logistics look like?__ The honeymoon should be something you look forward to, not another thing to stress over. If you’re having a destination wedding, getting married in a remote location, and it’s going to take three hours to drive to the airport post-reception, it’s fine to go home for a few days and regroup before heading out. \n- __What do you actually prefer?__ Go on your honeymoon when it works best for both of you—not because your mom thinks it’s cute to make a grand exit for the airport post-reception. \n\nAs per usual, the best time to take your honeymoon is whenever works best for you as a couple. Take your destination, goals for the trip, and any other logistical details in to account before making your decision.!\n\n*Looking for more insights on all things honeymoon? Instead, [requesting time off](https://www.zola.com/expert-advice/requesting-time-off-for-a-honeymoon) from work should be one of the first steps you take toward planning for your honeymoon. Upon having this conversation with your supervisor, you’ll have a more concrete idea of how much time you’ll have to be away. So, it’s best to have this conversation as soon as possible. More importantly, there’s certainly a right and wrong way to make your time off request. Check out our top tips for [how to request time off from work ](https://www.zola.com/expert-advice/requesting-time-off-for-a-honeymoon)for your honeymoon. \n\n![Requesting Time Off for a Honeymoon](//images.ctfassets.net/77l22z9el0aa/5VApADGZqqMcUaL8YbmaeG/ca3b2d37cf9f2e5506c49be52bdbe927/inline_stocksy_mountaincouple.jpg)\n*Photo Credit //* Stocksy\n\n## When Should You Make the Ask? \nWhile there is no definitive rule for how far in advance you should speak to your boss about your honeymoon vacation, it’s best to give them as much time as possible. In some cases, you may not be able to formally submit the request form for your time off with human resources until closer to the trip, but it’s still a good idea to clear your chosen dates with your boss. \n\nOftentimes, deciding when to ask your boss for time away is more about the circumstances of your unique situation, rather than a particular timeline. For example, you’ll want to have this discussion before booking any of your arrangements. While most companies and supervisors are more than understanding when it comes to weddings and honeymoons, it could prove challenging to adjust your plans, should anything go wrong. It’s also best to consider the time of year you plan to travel and what will be happening in your company at that time. For instance, if your employer puts on a large conference every fall, that may not be the best time for you to be away for two weeks. \n\nSimilarly, it is also beneficial to consider the time of day you choose to have your conversation with your boss. If you know she is usually busy in the mornings, don’t try to talk to her right when she walks in the door. Instead, wait for a time when she is free and able to process your time off request. \n\n## How Much Time Can You Ask For? \nUnfortunately, this is a question with no clear answer. The amount of time you are permitted to take away from the office and [how to request time off](https://www.zola.com/expert-advice/requesting-time-off-for-a-honeymoon) for your honeymoon will primarily depend on your company and its paid time off policy. If you work for an organization with a traditional paid leave policy, you’ll most likely be permitted to take as much time as you have accrued by the date you leave. So, if you have one week, you can take one week. However, if you want more time, you may be able to ask for, or negotiate, additional unpaid leave. \n\nIf your company has a more contemporary leave policy, such as unlimited or flexible time, it may not be as clear what you can expect. In this case, consider what the norm seems to be within your organization. If you have “unlimited” time, but most employees only take a week or two off at most, consider that when determining how much time off you’ll request. \n\nIf you plan to travel immediately or shortly after your wedding, consider the total amount of time you’ll want to be away during that period. It may be difficult for your manager to approve a vacation request of two weeks off for your wedding, and then, only a short later, three weeks off for your honeymoon. For this reason, many couples choose to delay their honeymoons at least three to six months after the wedding. Plus, by delaying your trip, you can save up your vacation days over an extended period. \n\nSo, when you’re planning, ask yourself [how long should a honeymoon be,](https://www.zola.com/expert-advice/how-long-should-a-honeymoon-be) and determine the appropriate amount of time you should request off. \n\n## What Should You Say? \nOnce you have decided what to ask for and when to have the discussion, it’s time to actually make your request. Thankfully, this should be a relatively straightforward process, and it’s highly unlikely that your boss will deny your request if you have carefully thought through the two questions above. However, just because you’re likely to receive approval, doesn’t mean there’s nothing you should do to make the conversation easier. This can be done by putting yourself in your boss’s shoes and considering the questions that she will have so that you can ensure that she has a clear understanding of what steps you’ll take to guarantee things run smoothly while you’re away. Explaining how the operations of your department will not be impacted by your absence and knowing which employee(s) will cover you while you’re out will increase your chance of having an approved request. \n\nFor example, if you’re managing a critical project team, you might say, “I would like to request two weeks off in October. I have already discussed coverage of my project management responsibilities with Tanya on the team, and she is prepared to step in while I am away.” The key is to show your manager that you have considered how your trip may impact the business, and you have taken the appropriate steps to minimize disruption. If she knows everything is taken care of while you’re gone, she will feel more at ease approving your request. While it can be tempting to submit your request via email, it’s best to have your initial conversation in-person. This allows your boss the opportunity to ask any clarifying questions, and makes the leave request feel more like a discussion that is open for schedule adjustments, such as shifting your days off earlier or later, if needed. \n\n![Requesting Time Off for a Honeymoon](//images.ctfassets.net/77l22z9el0aa/5h3BctL576eR3qVyw4gvEW/cf0646b462de6620e449a816b52f21e1/inline_unsplash_boss.jpg)\n*Photo Credit //* Stocksy\n\n## How Can You Prepare for Your Absence? \nFirst, breathe a sigh of relief that the hard part of [requesting time off](https://www.zola.com/expert-advice/requesting-time-off-for-a-honeymoon) is over. But, don’t relax just yet! Preparing for your time off is key to ensuring that you are able to relax while you are away. Start by setting expectations with your colleagues, manager, and anyone helping to cover you while you’re gone. This may include training another employee on certain aspects of your job, such as making sure that he or she knows where to access specific information or paperwork, and understands pertinent details for any customer-facing projects or work. \n\nThe more care you take in making these preparations, the more you’ll be able to unplug while you’re away. Think about everything you do throughout your workday and write down information as you go. In some cases, it may be worthwhile to create a document to house all of the details of your daily schedule. Start taking these notes a few weeks prior to your departure so that you can review them with relevant colleagues closer to your leave time. \n\nOnce you have set all expectations and shared all relevant information and paperwork, the last thing you need to do is put up an out-of-office reply on your email and/or phone line. This helps you, and those covering you, by notifying anyone who tries to contact you of your absence. A key element of this away message should be sharing whom people should contact while you are gone. In addition, stating when you’ll be responding to messages is a great way to continue setting expectations. For example, your out-of-office reply may look something like this: \n\n*Thank you for your email. I am away on my honeymoon from October 14 to 29. During this time, I will not be responding to any messages, and you can expect a response upon my return on October 30. If you require assistance in the meantime, please reach out to colleague@company.com.* \n\nThis short message clearly sets the expectation that you will not be responding to emails during your honeymoon, while also redirecting anyone who needs help before you return. \n\nHopefully, you found these tips on requesting time off to be helpful. Remember, every company is different, so be sure to review your request policy in the process. So, it’s no wonder so many couples look forward to a honeymoon escape after their nuptials. Not only can this time help you relax and unwind after your wedding day, but it’s a chance for you, as a couple, to spend time together before launching back into daily life. That said, [honeymoon planning](https://www.zola.com/expert-advice/honeymoon-planning-101-what-you-need-to-know) can sometimes be nearly as stressful as coordinating the wedding itself, especially when trying to answer a key question: how long should a honeymoon last?\n\n## How Long is the Average Honeymoon?\nThe average honeymoon lasts between 7 to 10 days. While some newlyweds may decide to extend their honeymoon to two weeks and beyond, others might decide to skip their honeymoon celebration altogether. It all depends on the couple’s vacation time, budget, and destination. In reality, there is no one-size-fits-all answer to that question, because honeymoons are as unique as the couples who plan them. Maybe your dream is a month spent backpacking through Europe, or perhaps a quiet weekend retreat in the mountains is more your style. If you’re having a tough time figuring out your ideal honeymoon duration, we have some tips for you. \n\n## How Long Does It Take for You to Relax? \nHoneymoons are primarily designed for you to spend uninterrupted quality time together, focusing on making memories as newlyweds and enjoying each other’s company. For that reason, the length of your honeymoon doesn’t really matter, as long as you’re disconnecting from the rest of the world and enjoying married life. However, another important role of the honeymoon is to help you relax after what may have been over a year’s worth of wedding planning. Considering this, think about how long it usually takes you to feel relaxed on vacation. For you, maybe that’s a few days, a week, a month, or even longer. Once you have an estimate, discuss the same question with your partner to figure out how long you both need to unwind and de-stress after the big event. This gives you a starting point, or goal length, to consider while you continue your planning. \n\n![How Long Should a Honeymoon Be?](//images.ctfassets.net/77l22z9el0aa/6mtnvexxLhyke4ELpmIHux/b3106160eff619f8f35c425d3961ab6e/inline_elkincardonaphotography.jpg)\n*Photo Credit //* Elkin Cardona Photography\n\n## How Much Vacation Time Do You Have?\nThe next question you need to answer is how much time you can take away from work. Most Americans are only allotted two to three weeks’ paid time off; however, if you’re planning far enough in advance, you may be able to stock up your vacation days to accommodate a longer honeymoon. Alternatively, you can attach your honeymoon travels to a national holiday, thus allowing you to use fewer paid vacation days. In some cases, due to workplace time-off limitations, couples decide to delay their honeymoons from a few weeks to a year after their wedding, so that they can have their ideal honeymoon when time permits. It’s worth noting that, depending on the type of company you work for, you may find that you’re permitted to take a few extra days off as a wedding gift, but have this conversation with your superior before you start making plans. \n\n## What Can You Afford?\nIt’s easy to start dreaming about all of the exotic and beautiful locations you’d like to visit on your honeymoon. But, before you think about your destination, you must determine a [realistic budget for your honeymoon](https://www.zola.com/expert-advice/honeymoon-fund-101). Not only will this keep you from overspending, but you can use it as a guide when researching your ideal vacation spot, considering only those locations that you can afford. To create an accurate honeymoon budget you must look at anticipated costs, including: transportation to and from your destination, travel expenses for the duration of your stay, accommodation, food and beverages, additional activities, and emergencies or unexpected expenses. Bonus: Making a budget can also help you determine the ideal length of your honeymoon, as it pertains to your finances. \n\nIf you don’t think you’ll be able to afford your dream honeymoon on your own, make sure to plan ahead; creating a honeymoon registry can help offset some of your trip costs. You can pick out activities, hotel accommodations, or even plane tickets for your guests to purchase or contribute towards. \n\n## Where Do You Want to Go?\nNow that you have a budget in mind, you can start to think about the places you’d like to travel to on your honeymoon. If you’ve determined that you can only use a few vacation days away from work, traveling to a remote [island honeymoon destination](https://www.zola.com/expert-advice/best-honeymoon-destinations) may not be feasible, given the amount of time you’d spend in transit. Rather, for shorter honeymoons, consider destinations closer to your home or a short plane ride away. If, however, you’re able to take multiple weeks off for your honeymoon and you have the finances to enjoy extended travel, an excursion across Europe or a far-flung [adventure honeymoon destination](https://www.zola.com/expert-advice/best-honeymoon-destinations) may be the perfect choice for you. \n\n![How Long Should a Honeymoon Be?](//images.ctfassets.net/77l22z9el0aa/5Aeefx8pemEJzjob6tWe7u/44682d9550bd26e494c413523b6c731f/inline_unsplash.jpg)\n*Photo Credit //* Unsplash\n\n## When Will You Go? \nYou’ll want to consider the time of year that you’ll be taking your honeymoon, as it pertains to both weather and tourism. The summer months in Europe are a peak season, which means that your expenses will be higher and your budget will not go as far. Similarly, planning a trip to the Caribbean or South Pacific during hurricane or monsoon season could severely disrupt your travel plans or leave you relegated to indoor activities throughout your trip. \n\n## Other Planning To Dos \nNow that we’ve answered how long a honeymoon should be, there are a number of other tips to help you plan the perfect post-wedding getaway. \n\n__Start Early__. As tempting as it might be to push off your honeymoon planning until after you’ve made all your wedding arrangements, it’s best to consider your travel and accommodations well in advance. Not only can booking early help you get a better price for other honeymoon expenses, but it can help ensure that you secure the hotel or resort of your choice, especially if your ideal honeymoon destination is popular at your chosen time of travel.\n\n__Do It Together.__ If you’re like most couples, chances are that one of you tends to do more of the planning and logistics than the other. While it may be easier for that person to take control and plan the entire trip, your honeymoon is supposed to be about experiencing things together and creating shared memories. So, take this time to discuss what you’ll each value doing while you are away together on your dream vacation. This ensures that the trip doesn’t end up filled with activities that only one of you wants to do. \n\n__Make It Your Own.__ With so many pre-planned itineraries available online, it’s tempting to copy someone else’s vacation; however, this would do a disservice to you, as a newlywed couple. Your honeymoon should be as unique as you are. While it’s fine to take ideas from online platforms or advice from friends and family, make sure that you’re stopping to discuss and consider what will work best for you as a couple. \n\n__Consider a Travel Agent.__ With insider knowledge on deals and discounts, using a travel agent to help plan your honeymoon can save you both time and money. Be sure to find someone interested in cultivating a personal relationship with you in order to provide the best service possible. Plus, travel agents will typically be available for questions or emergencies while you are traveling, giving you someone to call for help if things go wrong. \n\n__Surprise Each Other.__ While most of your honeymoon should be planned together, carve out some time for each of you to plan a surprise for the other. Focus on making full-day or expensive plans as a couple, but sneak in a special dinner date night or relaxing couple’s massage to add excitement and romance to your trip.\n\nReady to plan your dream getaway? We know, packing is generally very straightforward. However, since your honeymoon will likely take place soon after your wedding, planning and packing for it can end up being a bit more stressful. To ensure that you're best prepared, review the following before making your packing list.\n\n- Start by __looking at a comprehensive honeymoon packing list__. Lucky for you, we've created that just below! You'll find packing essentials not only for your carry-on and checked luggage, but for specific locations and activities.\n\n- That being said, __try not to go overboard__. You probably won't require every single item on this (or any other) packing list. Treat this packing list as a jumping off point, meant to be personalized and trimmed down for you and your trip.\n\n- __Pack items that are versatile__. Rather than packing multiple outfits per day (or even one per day) to be worn once, most of your clothing should be able to be washed and worn at least a couple times. This should prevent some hassle and save you a decent amount of luggage space.\n\n- __Triple check that you included crucial items__. Especially things that can't be easily replaced when you reach your destination. We're talking any and all medications (including over-the-counter), personal hygiene products, contact lenses, and the like.\n\n- Although it's probably the part you're least looking forward to, __get your documents in order early__. We recommend doing this before your wedding, so nothing gets lost in post-party exhaustion or the flurry of packing everything else you'll need. Don't forget copies of important documents and cards, all of which are listed just below.\n\n## Important Documents \nWhether you're planning on traveling domestically or internationally, there are at least a couple important documents you're going to need. Try to start getting these together a few months before you're set to leave for your honeymoon (new passports take around 18 weeks to receive). As you put them together, keep them in a special folder that you'll be able to fit in your carry-on.\n\n- Airline tickets (printed or mobile boarding pass)\n- Driver's licenses (and printed copies)\n- Passports, if necessary (as well as printed copies), visas, REAL-ID, or other [TSA-accepted document](https://www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/identification)\n- Car rental, hotel, restaurant, theatre, and other reservation confirmations (plus printed copies)\n- Travel insurance card\n- Important wallet contents (ID or driver’s license, ATM card, credit card, cash, traveler's checks)\n- Photocopies of all cards, travel documents, vaccination documents, health insurance card, prescriptions, and similar\n- Calling cards with the phone numbers of emergency contacts, your doctor(s), and your bank\n- List of prescribed medications in case of emergencies, preferably documented by your doctor\n\n## In Your Carry-On (All Destinations)\nYour carry-on bag should contain small items you may want to access while on the plane (or train, or automobile), as well as medications and valuables you want on-hand. This lowers your chances of losing them in transit and ensures you're comfortable on the way to your vacation spot.\n\n- Hand sanitizer, antibacterial wipes\n- Prescription medications (in original containers)\n- Contraception (birth control, condoms)\n- Over the counter medications (Tylenol or Advil, anti-histamines, antacids, etc.)\n- Brush or comb\n- Small skincare or makeup bag (if desired)\n- In-flight reading/entertainment (books, magazines, Kindle, iPad, laptop)\n- Chargers (phone, iPad, Kindle, camera, etc.)\n- Adapters/converters (if needed)\n- Headphones\n- Camera (plus film, memory cards)\n- Any valuables you want on hand (jewelry, etc.)\n- A light jacket, cardigan, or sweater\n- A change of clothing (underwear, top, bottoms)\n- Travel pillow and blanket\n- Eye mask\n- Travel sewing kit\n\n## In Your Checked Luggage (All Destinations)\nYour checked luggage should include everything else you want and need to pack for your trip. This includes clothing and shoes, as well as hair tools, guidebooks, toiletries (more specifics on those after), and more.\n\n- Luggage tags\n- Packing cubes (if you prefer to pack using them)\n- Underwear (multiple pairs of underwear, bras, etc.)\n- Lingerie\n- Swimwear\n- Comfortable socks (multiple pairs)\n- Pajamas and loungewear\n- Slippers\n- Casual tops (tank tops, t-shirts)\n- Dressy tops (blouses, button-downs, etc.)\n- Casual bottoms (jeans, leggings, shorts, etc.)\n- Dressy bottoms (trousers, dress pants, skirts, etc.)\n- Other outfit options (dresses, jumpsuits, etc.)\n- Outerwear (wrap, jacket, coat, raincoat)\n- Activewear\n- Shoes - multiple pairs, broken in (flats, sandals, sneakers, boots, etc.)\n- Backpack or purse (plus evening bag or clutch, if needed)\n- Travel umbrella or rain poncho/parka\n- Hair tools (curling iron, straightening iron, hair dryer, etc.)\n- Translation dictionary, guidebook(s), maps (if needed)\n\n## In Your Toiletries Bag (All Destinations)\nArguably, this is the hardest bag to pack. There's a lot to remember that—if you do end up forgetting—can be quite the bummer. This may prevent you from losing it throughout your travels. Many newlyweds opt to wear just their wedding bands or purchase a less valuable, faux engagement ring to wear when traveling.\n\nWe may sound repetitive, but it's worth noting once more: Be sure to keep your honeymoon's specific location, accommodations, trip duration, and any other important travel details top of mind as you pack for your honeymoon. Consider the places you'll be going, activities you'll be taking part in, and what you'll spend your time doing when putting your luggage together.","tag":"List","widget1":{"marketingModule":{"tag":"EA_Masterbrand"}},"widget2":{"marketingModule":{"tag":"EA_Seasons_Quiz"}},"nextUp":[{"excerpt":"Your honeymoon is your big chance to relax and enjoy newlywed life. While the latter option may be more rustic, we can guarantee that there is no better way to relax than to have nowhere to be for a few days or weeks as you simply enjoy the natural beauty of Iceland. Book your honeymoon at one of the many resorts near Playa del Carmen for an all-inclusive stay, including your room, food and beverage, spa treatments, water activities, and day excursions to nearby sightseeing attractions. Reserve accommodation further south near Tulum, an ancient Mayan port city, for yoga retreats and other calming activities. \n\n### Ireland\nThe Emerald Isle is often overlooked when considering [relaxing vacation destinations](https://www.zola.com/expert-advice/relaxing-honeymoon-destinations). Yet, when you visit, the easygoing pace of life and good-natured way of the locals is sure to sweep you off your feet. There's no need to come down from cloud nine just yet—the wedding bliss hasn't even hit its peak. Beaches are great, but there's an even better way to elevate your honeymoon experience. Two words, mountain honeymoon.\n\nA honeymoon in the mountains is all about finding the location that fits your personality, and these destinations are certainly capable of rising to the occasion. And now, with Zola’s [honeymoon cash funds](https://www.zola.com/shop/honeymoon-cash-funds), there’s no excuse not to plan the honeymoon of your dreams.\n\nMany couples avoid mountain honeymoon destinations because of the strong association between mountains and winter. While not all mountain honeymoons need to be winter affairs, a mountain honeymoon does hold a classically snowy persona. After all, everyone knows that cold weather means more cuddles, making it perfect for a romantic getaway. Sure, a beach is a great place to show off that fantastic wedding body you’ve worked so hard for, but there's nothing crazy about wanting to get some extra snugs from your new husband or wife.\n\nWhether you’re looking for a winter or summer option, this list of mountain [honeymoon destinations](https://www.zola.com/expert-advice/best-honeymoon-destinations) is sure to pique your interest. \n\n### 1. Whistler, BC, CA\nWhistler has long been a favorite mountain destination for Canadians and Americans alike. The incredible variety of activities that Whistler has to offer range from participating in seasonal sports to experiencing high-end luxury shopping and spas.\n\nWhistler is the perfect honeymoon destination for couples who like to do a little bit of everything. Or, if independence is important to you and your spouse, Whistler can accommodate your individual interests.\n\nWhistler is a premier ski destination, but the surrounding mountains also offer incredible hikes to waterfalls, lush forests to snowmobile or bike through, and, of course, classic Canadian kindness.\n\nOn top of being a premier honeymoon destination, Whistler is one of the fastest-growing destination wedding locations. For those couples who choose to have their wedding in Whistler, the honeymoon begins the moment you say \"I do.\" \n\n### 2. Aspen, CO\nThis posh Colorado town offers a mountain experience for those who enjoy the finer things in life. Often associated with the wealthy and famous, Aspen has a reputation for being out of reach as a standard honeymoon destination. Aspen is not as exclusive as TV and movies would have you believe, and if a romantic honeymoon filled with snowy bliss is what you're looking for, then Aspen is the place for you. \n\nAspen is pretty ski focused, so don't be surprised to find lots of information about ski and snowboard packages when researching an Aspen honeymoon. However, Aspen offers a variety of winter activities, some of which are as easy as lying around your resort and enjoying a couples massage after an eventful [winter wedding](https://www.zola.com/blog/wedding-inspiration/winter-wedding-ideas/). While you may find yourself spending a pretty penny, your only limitation in Aspen is your imagination.\n\n### 3. Jackson Hole, WY\nNestled in the shadows of the highest peaks of the Grand Tetons, Jackson Hole is a perfect place for a mountain honeymoon. Aside from being a world-renowned ski resort, Jackson Hole is a quaint town with a rich history. The cowboy aesthetic runs deep in Jackson Hole, and visitors often speak of feeling right at home.\n\nJackson hole offers far more daytime activities than it does a vibrant nightlife, making it more attractive for couples who prefer a [relaxing honeymoon destination](https://www.zola.com/expert-advice/relaxing-honeymoon-destinations). A perfect destination for summer or winter, Jackson Hole is a mountain town whose raw natural beauty will inspire romance for any couple, and it’s especially tantalizing for those who choose it as a honeymoon destination. \n\n![Mountain Honeymoon Destinations](//images.ctfassets.net/77l22z9el0aa/7pJMgjIbfBLlT7eiUbqm3Z/69503ac0266dcc66d431aaab13105736/inline_valentin-b-kremer-unsplash.jpg)\n*Photo Credit* // Valentin B Kremer Unsplash\n\n### 4. Shenandoah Valley, VA\nThe Shenandoah Valley is a popular mountain vacation destination amongst east coasters. This incredible mountain community is situated amidst the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains and the Ridge-Valley Appalachians. \n\nIf you're going to visit the Shenandoah Valley, we recommend going in the fall. While most couples enjoy Vail because of its winter appeal, the summer is equally as breathtaking.\n\n### 7. Lake Tahoe, NV\nLake Tahoe is a year-round mountain honeymoon destination that is perfect for any season. Home to incredible winter ski resorts that turn to mountain bike trails in the summer, the slopes of Lake Tahoe are always open for some sort of fun, couple-friendly activity. Lake Tahoe is the gem of the Sierra-Nevada mountain range and sits on the border of California and Nevada, serving as a perfect romantic getaway for couples who want an outdoor adventure.\n\nBoth the California and Nevada side of Lake Tahoe are equally stunning, but most couples choose to stay in Nevada, due to all the adult fun. Since gambling is legal in Nevada, there are no shortages of casinos, and the resort-casino combos of South Lake Tahoe are legendary.\n\nWhether you and your partner choose a sun-soaked summer honeymoon adrift on the lake, or a snowy slope-filled honeymoon of skiing and snowboarding, Lake Tahoe offers the perfect blend of activity and romance. While early fall and late spring usually feature the best Lake Tahoe bargains, the seasonal versatility of Lake Tahoe means that there is really no tourist \"off-season\".\n\n### 8. Himalayas, Nepal\nThe Himalayan mountain range is one of the most revered in the world, so it’s no wonder why a trip to Nepal would make for an incredible romantic honeymoon. Asheville is steeped in rich history and is home to the Biltmore Estate, a popular tourist attraction. \n\nAside from the classic mountain activities of hiking, biking, and fishing, this mountain town is a beer drinkers paradise. Asheville takes pride in their craft brew, and with over 20 microbreweries who call Asheville home, it might take several days of brewery tours to visit each one. Plus, with great beer comes excellent food—Asheville's culinary game is next level.\n\nAsheville is a great choice for a mountain honeymoon, as it offers privacy and seclusion without eliminating the fun of a vibrant social scene. The best part about Asheville is the ability to go from the central part of town and back to a secluded cabin for some privacy and quiet. Boasting the perfect combination of peaceful mountain aesthetic and youthful exuberance, you won't find a sleepy town vibe in this mountain community.\n\n![Mountain Honeymoon Destinations](//images.ctfassets.net/77l22z9el0aa/ArImZte9w7qcOmkRmo6zF/a04ee48ff87c4d21b554a1d76aa0a5e2/inline_caleb-kastein-unsplash.jpg)\n*Photo Credit* // Caleb Kastein Unsplash\n\n### 10. The hotel sits in what was once a mining town, now rebuilt to accommodate boutique honeymoon cabins. Each of which includes heated slate floors, unique bath tubs, and hand-picked antique decor, for a fully immersive retreat. When you're not cozying it up in your cabin, you can visit the old village Dance Hall, Bath House, or Saloon, all while taking in the great mountains and winding river.\n\nIf you're looking for a bit more luxury, consider the Broadmoor. Sitting at the gateway of the Rockies, it's surrounded by over 100,000 acres of the Pike National Forest. Romantic and exciting activities abound, like top tier dining options, zip lining, spa services, cabana reservations at an outdoor pool, and Cloud Camp, which has 360 degree views of Pikes Peak.\n\nWhether you're looking forward to resting post-wedding or are ready to jump into the action, the Rocky Mountains have a variety of exciting options.\n\n### 11. Catskill Mountains, NY\nThose craving a stylish getaway amidst the mountains will find what they're looking for in Upstate New York. The Catskills feature a slew of charming small towns, stunning hiking trails, boutique hotels, and local breweries. Idyllic strolls can also be taken through many of the mountain region's towns and hamlets, such as Monticello, Margaretville, Roxbury, and Livingston Manor. Just grab a coffee, put on a comfortable pair of shoes, and enjoy meandering through one (or several) of these chic and ever-growing spots.\n\nCouples who choose to take the trip during the winter can also enjoy seasonal outdoor activities like skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking, and even a scenic chairlift ride over Roxbury. However, whichever season you plan for, you're bound to experience plenty of beautiful sights.\n\n### 12. Nelson, NZ\nFans of outdoor adventures, art, film will find their perfect mountain honeymoon location in Nelson, New Zealand. Visitors can explore Abel Tasman National Park, which is accessible via walking, cruising, or kayaking. Sailing is also available on the park's bays, where you may spot some dolphins and seals playing nearby. Keep the fun going by going skydiving, swimming in Lake Rotoiti at Nelson Lakes National Park, and white water rafting.\n\nArtists will be delighted to know that Nelson is home to one of the largest numbers of art galleries and working artists in New Zealand. Visit local studios, markets, and galleries to find painters, sculptors, jewelers, glass-blowers, and more.\n\nOf course, we couldn't mention this particular spot without pointing out its film history. Big fans of Lord of the Rings will delight at the opportunity to see one of the film's original rings on display (not to mention, be able to purchase a replica). Nelson is also home to Takaka Hill, the filming location for Chetwood Forest. Take a helicopter ride to spot the filming site of Dimrill Dale, as well as the region's three national parks: the aforementioned Abel Tasman and Nelson Lakes, and Kahurangi. \n\n### 13. Sun Valley, Idaho\nWhat do Tom Hanks, Oprah Winfrey, and Jamie Lee Curtis have in common? They, among a slew of other high profile celebrities, have all owned properties in Sun Valley, Idaho. The hotspot is adored by household names and snowbirds alike, with plenty visiting during the winter season to ski, snowboard, hike, and relax after it all in outdoor hot springs. That being said, it's also a wonderful location to honeymoon in throughout the warmer months. Take advantage of thrilling warm weather excursions like horseback riding, paragliding, canoeing, paddle boarding, mountain bike rides, and dipping into one of many swimming holes.\n\nRegardless of season, Sun Valley visitors enjoy a secluded spot that makes it easy to disconnect from every day life. The area exudes romance and is ideal for weekend getaways and extended stays.\n\n### 14. Kachemak Bay, AK\nThose who'd rather trade in a trip full of relaxation for one packed with unique adventure should look to Kachemak Bay, Alaska. This couple's priorities lie in great adventure—and not so much in lavish resorts. That being said, you won't go without jaw-dropping accommodations. Tutka Bay Wilderness Lodge sits on a seven mile fjord that extends into the Kenai Mountains, remote and ready for exploration. Couples will enjoy the ocean front property and opportunities to hike, go on guided tours to see bears, kayak, fish, and even take cooking classes and go for a massage. Typically, most couples are too eager to take a honeymoon to wait half a year until the time is right. Furthermore, spring has been unfairly branded as an inopportune time to travel, due to worldwide weather inconsistencies. \n\nSince the whole idea behind this romantic tryst is perfection at every turn, spring has been avoided as a honeymoon season. However, while older generations may have held the belief that spring is no time to travel, conventional wisdom has experienced a recent and radical shift. Spring honeymoons are the new trendy time to travel in style.\n\nAre you going to gamble with the weather in the spring? Sure. But, that’s why choosing the right location for a spring honeymoon is so important. There are several fantastic spring honeymoon destinations where this season offers the best weather out of the whole year. If you’re going to take a risk with weather regardless of when and where you travel, why not use the risk to your advantage.\n\nSpringtime honeymoons are great for couples who want to save some money after the wedding to fund their perfect honeymoon. Whether you’re trying to be budget-conscious or simply get the most out of your honeymoon experience, a spring honeymoon is a great choice. Check out our list of the best honeymoon destinations in April, which will have your new love in full bloom!\n\n### Australia\nThere are so many incredible places to take a springtime honeymoon. Still, none of them are quite as diverse as Australia. Located in the Southern Hemisphere, a spring honeymoon excursion to this island continent means you’ll actually be there during Australia’s fall. The Northern Hemisphere’s springtime is a popular time to visit Australia, as the country is still plenty warm after cooling off from a long Australian summer.\n\nWestern Australia is an especially popular destination during the Northern Hemisphere’s spring. Western Australia offers a rugged aesthetic with a refined exterior, allowing you to experience the raw natural beauty of Australia with first-class amenities. Reminiscent of California, West Oz (as it’s affectionately referred to by locals) is home to majestic blue oceans, dense forests, and sweeping valleys. \n\nWestern Australia is also one of the foremost authorities on wine. There are countless wineries in Western Australia, and visiting West Oz during the Northern Hemisphere’s spring means that you’ll be there during harvest. Any winemaker will tell you that harvest is one of the best times to visit a winery. As generous and welcoming as the Australians are, a winery visit during harvest in West Oz comes with a high chance of creating an epic life experience.\n\nIf your scene is more white sand and tropical weather, Australia is still the place for you. Coastal Queensland is an impressive run of the coast and stretches along the Eastern Seaboard from Brisbane all the way north to Cairns. Along this magical stretch of coastline, you’ll find incredible beaches, unbeatable resorts, and, of course, the Great Barrier Reef. \n\nDon’t be fooled though, Australia is a big place, so you’ll probably need to pick one spot and stick to it. However, springtime in the Northern Hemisphere translates to fall down under, which means fewer tourists, lower prices, and incredible weather.\n\n![Best Honeymoon Destination in April](//images.ctfassets.net/77l22z9el0aa/3HZqbIbTLK69kgKqEtE2Rt/84fb2bbaa4c875e259b3eccf8ae670a5/inline_dan-freeman-unsplash.jpg)\n*Photo Credit //* Dan Freeman Unsplash\n\n### Costa Rica\nThe dry season in Costa Rica is from December to April, meaning the beginning of spring is a perfect time to visit this tourist-friendly country.
