Q: How many songs are typically performed during the ceremony? What about prelude music?

Seating of the family, usually grandmothers and mothers, bridal party, officiant, groomsmen, bridesmaids, any flower girls/ring bearers, bride, and optional interludes.

Q: How do you time the music during the ceremony?

Having a coordinator or a designated person that can give the ensemble a clear cue/wave when the ceremony is about to start greatly helps transition from the prelude music to the first song during the ceremony as well as the other songs. During the music planning, our ensemble liaison will ask how many people will be walking down during the ceremony.

Q: Do you attend the wedding rehearsal?

We have been performing for weddings over 12+ years so we rarely ever need to attend the rehearsal. We also perform full time in orchestras and area ensembles so scheduling can make it difficult.

Q: We would like a song not on your repertoire list. Can you arrange it for us?

We arrange songs for our ensemble when sheet music for strings cannot be bought or found anywhere. Therefore it has to be arranged for the ensemble. There would be a fee to arrange each song. We write out the music note by note for each instrument which can take several hours. The music would be created specifically for your event.

Q: Do you all travel?

We do! We are based in Charleston but have performed weddings in Myrtle Beach, Savannah, as well as Columbia and Sumter areas over the years.

Q: What would the musicians typically wear for my wedding?

During the hotter months, the musicians wear all black. During the rest of the year, men can wear a black or dark suit, women wear all black. If its a beach ceremony or very casual we can also able to do white shirt and khaki combination. We are pretty flexible!

Live string music will add a special atmosphere for your family and guests. Palmetto Strings has performed countless weddings in the Charleston, SC. They also travel to Hilton Head, Myrtle Beach and surrounding areas. When choosing musicians for your special day, sound quality matters. We've been performing together since 2004 here in Charleston, before most of the other ensembles in Charleston came to be, and have extensive experience at all of its venues.
