Welcome! Ripen Company was founded in 2018 by chef Sophie Speer. Our motto is "gather with the best" - We produce seasonal, locally sourced gathering boards and tablescapes with local and seasonal cheeses, cured meats, and everything else that looks good. We are not a full-service caterer - we only do appetizers! Whether you'd like a bountiful "grazing table" (we prefer the term gathering table!) for your wedding day itself or would like to order a few smaller boards for a bachelorette, welcome dinner, or just to snack on while getting dressed - we're here for you with the best stuff California has to offer!

We only do one thing, which makes us really good at it! Working with us, you can feel confident that the food you serve will reflect your values. We curate ingredients from small local farms, creameries, and makers. Our spreads are a "gathering" of all the best stuff (just like your wedding!) - a curated collection of things we love, from local pickles to funky cheese and the first berries of summer. We hope you enjoy them in joyous company.

Ripen gathering boards are the number one way that I elevate any event. As an event planner, I'm always looking for ways to make my events more stunning and unique AND for vendors that are easy to work with. Ripen checks all the boxes. Not only do the boards look amazing, they TASTE amazing too! They use the best local ingredients possible. My clients are always raving about them.

Standard delivery is within 25 miles of our Oakland kitchen, but we also offer deliver farther afield fo $1/mile round trip (looking at you, Napa!)

What shows up on our boards is entirely dictated by what’s fresh and available from our partner growers and producers. It changes week to week! Each spread includes a variety of local cheeses, cured meats, fresh produce, buts, olives, pickles, crackers, jams, mustards etc. - what's there exactly will always be a bit of a surprise - and we think that’s the best part.

If you order a board from us online (for a pre-party or special snack), we'll just drop it off ready to go (our packaging is really pretty, and very sturdy :) If you order a full custom spread from us, you'll have the option to add on staffing services. If you don't choose to hire staffing, you'll need to find someone on your crew to clean up afterwards (this is not hard if it's a small spread).

We offer three types of plating: disposable plywood boards, cookie sheets (waste free, no additional charge), or custom rental platters (waste-free, extra charge). We're happy to talk through these options with you on your initial intake call!

YES! It’s easy for us to accommodate allergies and preferences and we are happy to do so. Please note that while our boards are gluten-free except for optional crackers, we are NOT operating out of a certified gluten-free facility. Same goes for nuts or other allergens - we can remove them upon request, but can't guarantee anything's 100% allergen-free.

No, not quite. While we are generous with our portions and our spreads look quite bountiful, our food is all cold and is not meant to be served as a full meal. It's best as a light appetizer, although if you want to bump up your portions to be more of a heavy app, we're happy to do that.
