During our engagement shoot, Lauren was incredibly directive and showed up with a list of poses. Thus, I expected a similar approach at the wedding, however, Lauren didn’t seem to be nearly as directive as evidenced by asking “were there any poses from your engagement photos you liked?” and telling the groomsmen to just “do whatever.” For each photo delivery I had to ask about them. It took 5 weeks for our engagement photos, 11 weeks for our wedding sneak peaks, 13 weeks for our wedding reception photos, and 30 weeks for the full wedding gallery. At our wedding, my sister asked Lauren about turn around time and she said the 3-month maximum in the contract is a CYA and 1.5 months is more common, yet, it took 2 months to even receive our sneak peaks. During this time, Lauren was posting updates on her social media about editing challenges, however, those were the only updates as there was zero direct communication. While appreciative of these updates, I was surprised I didn’t receive anything directly because as a business owner myself, there is a standard to directly communicate with any and all clients impacted by difficulties. Following this pattern, our 3-month deadline came and went with nothing. I reached out the next day asking when we would be receiving the remainder of our photos and got a lengthy response about her hard drive holding our getting ready, wedding party, family, first look, and ceremony photos malfunctioning and erasing all these photos two weeks earlier. Not only were our photos missing, but apparently had been for two weeks and we’d heard nothing about it. You hear of these stories, but never think it’s going to be you. The miracle of the story is that seven months post wedding, our photos were recovered and we love them! However, because of the continued lack of communication and professionalism throughout the above ordeal I cannot give a 5-star rating. I understand mistakes and freak accidents happen, but I do not understand the absence of accountability and empathy we received. Throughout this waiting period, I again had to reach out to Lauren for any kind of update and was regularly ignored for days, while, her personal social media was constantly active. When we expressed frustration with the lack of effort to progress the situation we were shut down and met with endless excuses. Furthermore, when we stated how we were feeling about this whole thing, instead of sympathy, she shared her own discourse which seemingly mattered more. The regular reminders of the impact this had on her completely flipped the situation to be about her which was infuriating and beyond unprofessional. It’s hard not to wonder if these challenges would have happened had our photos been edited sooner or we picked a different photographer. Lauren was the most expensive photographer on our prospective list, but due to loving her editing style, I really pushed to book her. During our initial interview, she was communicative, and we even asked what she had in place to avoid the loss of photos, and she assured us it had never once happened, she had multiple cameras, hard drives, backups, and failsafes. On paper and based on the reviews we read, she checked out, but our experience proved otherwise. This experience was endlessly stressful and maddening yet it genuinely seemed like Lauren couldn’t care less. If you are a future bride looking for an invested, proficient, and professional photographer, I would not recommend Lauren.
Response from vendor•Jul 6, 2025Emma, First and foremost, I want to sincerely thank you for taking the time to share your experience — even though it’s incredibly difficult to read, I truly appreciate the honesty. I’m deeply sorry that your experience with me fell short of your expectations, especially during such a meaningful and once-in-a-lifetime occasion. Your wedding day deserved the utmost care, professionalism, and clarity, and I’m heartbroken to know that my actions—or lack thereof—left you feeling frustrated, unheard, and disappointed. Regarding the posing at your wedding, I understand now that you expected a more structured and varied approach based on your engagement session. My intention was to repeat some of the poses that photographed well and that many couples love, especially if they worked beautifully for you during the engagement shoot. Had I known you were hoping for a completely fresh approach, I would have absolutely adjusted — and I apologize for not clarifying that expectation beforehand. That’s a valuable lesson for me going forward. As for the groomsmen photos, I occasionally shift my direction to a more casual “do whatever you like” approach when prompts aren't landing or the group seems unsure — not to disengage, but to avoid making anyone feel uncomfortable or overly staged. Still, I hear your concern and will be more intentional with group dynamics in the future. On the topic of communication, I completely understand your frustration. Last season was an incredibly demanding one, and while that’s not an excuse, it is the reality I was navigating — one I did not handle as well as I should have. I take full ownership of that. Your insight about needing more proactive, direct updates is completely fair, and it’s something I’ve been working hard to improve — including learning to manage my ADHD more effectively so I can better support my clients no matter how busy the season gets. The hard drive malfunction and photo loss was devastating, and I can’t put into words how deeply sorry I am that it impacted you. When I shared how upset I was, it was only ever intended to express how seriously I took the situation and how much I cared — never to deflect or make it about me. I’m truly sorry if that came across otherwise. I should have communicated the issue immediately instead of waiting to resolve it behind the scenes first — that delay understandably damaged your trust, and I regret it deeply. I know that at the end of the day, intentions don’t undo impact. This was your wedding — a day you will remember forever — and the experience you had with me caused you stress and pain. For that, I am so sorry. I’m also genuinely relieved and grateful that the photos were recovered and that you love them. That was my top priority, and I did everything in my power to make that miracle happen. While I can’t change what happened, I have absolutely learned from it. Your feedback has already helped me improve my systems, backup processes, and communication habits. Thank you again for your honesty, and I truly wish you both nothing but happiness and peace as you continue your life together. Warmly, LaurenLauren is amazing!
We loved having Lauren capture our special day! She was so easy to work with! Her work is beautiful and just the right vibe. We are so happy with our wedding day photos and will definitely treasure them for a lifetime.
