“Selena was one of the first vendors we booked for our wedding. When we were getting our engagement pictures done with her in April of 2023 we knew then and there that we wanted her to photograph our wedding for us, too. We didn't have the funds at the time to put down our deposit, but she was more than happy to block the day for us anyway and told us we could send her the deposit whenever we were ready to. Needless to say, the check was sent as soon as we could. We also got family pictures done with my husband's family and they turned out better than we could have ever wanted. Having Selena around was like having a friend around - amplified by our connections to people we knew in high school. I had emailed Selena a couple months before the wedding to ask if it would be possible to drive out to see my husband's great grandma before the ceremony and get a couple pictures with her since she would be unable to make it and she was more than happy to go with us, even if it meant we were rushing back to the venue because of crazy Wichita traffic. I was really impressed that she listened to exactly what we wanted - we definitely didn't want these fake posed photos you often see from weddings and she was perfect at fulfilling that and producing the most natural collection of memories. She really hung back in the background so you never felt you have a camera in your face all day and yet the final results were breathtaking. My name is Ali Cushing, a NY-based/working anywhere, visual storyteller who captures the authentic experience with intention. It's feeling, and it's found in the whirlwind and the still moments, in heightened emotion and calm, and above all, celebrating what makes you and your partner exactly who you are with the people you choose to surround yourself with. In my work composition serves to frame the feeling, with permission to be raw, outrageous, reserved, and unabashedly yourself. I make photos about the day and not the day about the photos. When I was a kid all I wanted to be was a photographer (or a vet) and in 2019 o my husband gave me that opportunity. I left my corporate job to pursue my passion. I started a pet sitting business AND a photography business at the same time and I think it's safe to say that right now I am living the dream. I have three beautiful cats and a wonderful husband who supports me in whatever I do.
