In 1985, Chef/Owners Susan Feniger and Mary Sue Milliken debuted the first Border Grill as a small, forty seat “taco stand” on Melrose out of a deep affection and appreciation of the Mexican kitchen. Effortlessly blending their classical culinary training with conscientiously-sourced ingredients, and regional recipes inspired by home cooks from Oaxaca to Mexico City, street vendors in Tijuana, and taco stands along the Yucatan and Baja coasts, the award-wining chefs continue to evolve their California-inflected Mexican-inspired cuisine.

Now with multiple Border Grill locations, food trucks, and a full-service events and catering business, the chef duo continue breaking barriers as female restaurateurs in a male-dominated industry, pioneering sustainability initiatives and developing their culinary offerings into cookbooks, radio and tv shows, and quick service spin-offs BBQ Mexicana and Pacha Mamas in Las Vegas, and their new restaurant Socalo in Santa Monica. At every location from Los Angeles to Las Vegas, the chefs combine fresh, flavorful and organic ingredients with hand shaken cocktails, vibrant design, and friendly service to create an unforgettable dining experience.

    Hiring Border Grill for our wedding was hands-down one of the best decisions we made! From the moment we did our tasting at their Santa Monica location, we knew we were in excellent hands. Taylor was an absolute gem—helping us craft a thoughtful and inclusive menu that catered to everyone, including vegan, gluten-free/celiac, and nut-free guests. Her guidance, patience, and attention to detail made the planning process so easy and enjoyable. On the big day, the service was phenomenal. The buffet was not only delicious but also beautifully labeled with dietary information, which so many of our guests appreciated and commented on. It’s not often that guests go out of their way to compliment the food at a wedding, but ours did—repeatedly. Everyone was blown away! The churro tots were a total HIT. People are still talking about them! We also used Border Grill for bar service, and everything ran smoothly from start to finish. The staff was professional, friendly, and totally on top of everything—including helping get the venue ready and making sure the entire experience was seamless. We truly felt cared for and supported by the entire team. If you're looking for a catering company that delivers on every front—delicious food, amazing service, and genuine kindness—Border Grill is it. We can’t recommend them enough!

    Border Grill Catered & bartended for my wedding and I cannot say enough good things about them. From the start they were incredibly easy to work with, very transparent and fair with pricing, and handled everything flawlessly. Our contact, Taylor, was always available to talk and go over any questions we had (and often answered them before we had a chance to even ask them) and made us feel super re-assured about everything going into the wedding! The food was excellent and we received non-stop compliments from our guests with several people telling me it was the best wedding food that they'd ever had. The Oaxacan Old Fashioneds were such a hit that we ran out of Mezcal halfway through the night (which I was honestly glad about because I needed people to actually drink the rest of the alcohol I'd bought). Our wedding would not have been the same without them!

    My wife and I are so glad we chose Border Grill to cater our wedding this past May. Taylor at Border Grill was great to work with and she made it very easy to communicate with and was always there for help throughout the process. Border Grill’s staff and bartenders were friendly and worked efficiently. Numerous guests stated how much they enjoyed the cocktails the bartenders prepared.

    I am writing this review wayyyy too late (a little over 2 years after my wedding) and it has been eating me away inside because I need to give Border Grill all the praise they deserve. As a wedding planner myself, I had worked with Border Grill previously and found them to be so easy to work with as well as extremely professional. They always had the absolute best food so I knew when I was getting married they were at the top of my list! My husband at the time was hesitant as he isn’t the biggest fan of Mexican food even though I explained to him several times that it's a delicious modern fusion. Once we had our tasting he was sold! Taylor was so great to work with and so flexible with all our requests. We of course had to add on the churro tots for desserts as well as late night tamales. Nothing was left from either of those stations! We did a plated dinner and our guests could not stop raving about the choices, especially the short rib, it was a huge hit!
