F.","reviewText":"My daughter and her husband chose Milton Ridge for their wedding venue. I live on the opposite coast so I had no opportunity to have a look myself. She and her husband were very happy with the layout of the property and the location. She assured me that staff were warm and friendly as well as very professional and that all questions were addressed promptly and in great detail. My daughter and her husband felt listened to and respected by everyone at Milton Ridge. I was anxious but it was their wedding and they had done a lot of research! \nI am overjoyed that they chose Milton Ridge for their very special day!! I spoke to many guests and family members that day and evening; everyone had high praise for the couple’s choice of venue. The property is self-contained with a beautiful turn of the century chapel on the lower level of the property and a very large bricked patio on the upper level; with an enormous wooden gazebo at one end and tiered garden area at the opposite end. Indoor or outdoor wedding?? Hard to choose as both areas are sooooo lovely. The Bridal suite and Grooms quarter are in a building adjacent to the chapel on the lower level of the property. Another turn of the century building with Bridal suite, porch and porch swing on the ground level and the Grooms quarters on the 2nd level via a private enclosed stairway; providing total privacy for both parties and their respective entourages. Both areas were very well appointed, comfortable and large; plenty of room for multiple people in each area to get ready for the big day! The Reception Hall was on the upper level with a porch and short stairway leading from the hall to the outdoor patio. The Hall was fresh and bright with plenty of room for DJ, tables, dance floor, bar and buffet without feeling overfilled or crowded. \nBride and Groom chose the bar-b-que menu for their dinner; it was beautifully presented, delicious and plentiful. No one left Milton Ridge hungry that evening! The wait staff and bartenders were all very attentive and had obviously been very well trained at table service and bar service respectively. \nMusic was provided by a DJ who was contracted by Milton Ridge and was included with the package that my daughter and her husband had chosen. The selection was a mix of old and new with the focus of getting the guests up and dancing. He was very good at his job and he accomplished his goal!\nLast but definitely not least; the photographer; also contracted with Milton Ridge! He was amazing!!! The unique shots, quality and beauty of his work left us speechless. He was everywhere, but never in the way, always inconspicuous and watching for that perfect candid shot. Even his posed photos had a very relaxed casual look about them. All photos were organized and available to the newlyweds on the Milton Ridge website within 10days of their wedding day!! I’m going to give an honest review about our experience below with both good things and some things to consider. Even with some things not going perfectly, we feel that we would choose this venue again if we had the choice. \n\nWe were very happy with:\n1. The ability to have a wedding weekend here for a relatively low price, the ability to have our rehearsal, welcome dinner, wedding ceremony, wedding reception, and breakfast on Sunday all at the same place but in different spaces onsite. This was very convenient and our entire wedding party could stay onsite with us. We enjoyed this. They gave my husband a Veteran’s discount, which we very much appreciated. The property is gorgeous, and we made use at our November wedding of the mountains in the background. T This fit our vision of a romantic rural venue that was elegant, but not pretentious, with lovely views.\n\n2. Dan and Ellen were very nice to me and my husband. They brought us breakfast in the cottage on our wedding day so we could have a quiet breakfast together before the day started. That’s what we wanted. The Chef made my mom a special breakfast sandwich to order in the morning. They were accommodating about us bringing in lunch on Friday for the wedding party, snacks on the wedding day, and doing a customized breakfast for us on Sunday. We appreciated their ability to be flexible. \n\n3. The fall colors were perfect, the horse was on property, we got amazing pictures under the stars, and we loved being able to make use of all of the spaces onsite for our different events. The scenery was really picturesque! The reception hall is perfect for a wedding reception and plenty of space for dancing. The location was close to Dulles for people to fly in and get there easily. \n\n4. The cottage for the couple was fun and the kitchenette was nice. The bathtub was nice, and it was a good space for all of the ladies to get ready in on the day of the wedding, hang out, and have snacks. \n\n5. On Friday night, we had a country western party themed welcome party and dinner in the space outside of the ballroom. We had adequate space to turn that space into a dance floor (near the fireplace) and set up food/drinks and tables for 50 in that space. Dan recommended Hammerdown BBQ, which is very nearby. We had people raving about the BBQ, saying it was the best cornbread they had ever had, and the best brisket. \n\nThings that could have been improved:\n1. The rooms are quirky and there are insects and rodents around. If that is a deal breaker, than this may not be the place for you. It is rustic! That's part of the charm and also comes with some things that are unavoidable. \n\n2. There are not bathrooms in all of the rooms and for some people in our wedding party, that was an issue. \n\n3. There was some lack in communication between the owners and our wedding coordinators and caterer. \n\n4. There were some issues where our coordinators couldn’t find Dan, Ellen, or staff on the day of the wedding when they needed them. \n\n5. Some spots around the venue are not easily handicap accessible and there are not bathrooms at every site. \n\nOverall, we are satisfied with our choice to go with Briar Patch. It was a great choice and we have many happy memories and beautiful pictures from that day. My bridesmaids and I got ready at the farmhouse, pictures were taken around the property, we were married in one of the fields and had the reception in the barn. We loved the venue and so did all of our guests. The Berrys are insightful and very observant, and do a really great job of listening to you and understanding what is important to you and your future spouse.\nAs we talked about what we wanted we asked for some special ceremonial aspects specific to us. It was perfectly integrated. We were looking for something a little less traditional but also with the familiar structure so that the more traditional family members would follow along without too much confusion. It was the perfect balance. I honestly I’m just so happy my now wife found the Berrys. There is a lot that goes into a wedding and we can be worried about decorations, and invites, the family politics and food, djs, catering… but the most important part at the end of the day is 30min ceremony where the officiant make you married. I think Jon was just an amazing human and I’m so happy he could stand with us and marry us. This venue has it ALL! We were looking for mountain views, outdoor ceremony with indoor reception, bring your own beer/booze (with hired legal bartender and correct licensing), bring your own food with no additional charge, on-site his&hers changing rooms, enough room for 100 people with a dance floor, and a cute cabin vibe. Not only did Faithbrooke meet all our requirements, it blew our expectations away! Faithbrooke is pretty much the only affordable, reasonable venue left in the greater DC/Shenandoah area that still is absolutely gorgeous and appears very high-end. The best part was Cort's kind, attentive, responsive customer service. He was truly incredible to work with, always easy to reach (which was so important), and worked with any special circumstances we had. We wanted a mountain view during the ceremony and the terrace was absolutely perfect. The greenhouse is gorgeous and looks amazing both in person and in photographs and was the perfect backdrop. We served cider and apple cider donuts and our guests loved both. It felt so unique and special! Working with everyone at the venue was incredibly easy, and they were so kind and welcoming to us and felt like they really wanted to make sure our day went well. \n\nWe booked all of the AirBnBs on the property and would definitely recommend doing so. The “bridal” suite off of the Greenhouse was great for staging and getting a moment away during the wedding, having the extra space for actually getting ready was a very good choice (especially with larger wedding parties and lots of people doing hair and makeup). We also stayed in one of the AirBnBs the night before and afterwards, and being on the property was incredibly convenient as hotels in Harrisonburg are a bit of a hike. The AirBnBs were cute and worked great for our purposes!
