Built in 1893 by local architect Wallace L. Dow using Sioux Quartzite, the first Minnehaha County Courthouse was once the "largest courthouse between Chicago and Denver." Its interior boasts slate stairs, granite pillars, stained glass, and striking murals (1915-17) by Ole Running depicting early Dakota life. Used until 1962, it faced demolition but was saved in 1974. Today, the Old Courthouse is the Siouxland Heritage Museums, offering free exhibits over three floors, including a restored courtroom.

The Casey Tibbs South Dakota Rodeo Center hosts both a multi-purpose conference center and a historical museum devoted to the legendary sport of South Dakota rodeo. In this classy two-level museum, you can see the extensive memorabilia of 9-time World Champion, Casey Tibbs, the spectacular trick rider of the 1920's, Mattie Goff Newcombe, and many other world champions from the state of South Dakota. We also display past and present rodeo aspects that range from the Little Britches, 4-H, High School Rodeo, College and beyond.
