How much does a wedding photographer cost?

Wedding photographers early in their careers can cost as little as $1,500. Super experienced photographers, as seen in magazines like Vogue and Vanity Fair, can cost upwards of $30,000. The range is wide, but, in general, you can expect to spend around 10% of your budget on wedding photography. Rates also vary based on wedding length, the services you want, and location. A photographer based in an area with a lower cost of living, for example, will be less than one based in New York or San Francisco.

How much should we tip our wedding photographer?

A good rule of thumb is to tip 10% of their rate, or at least $100. If they’re bringing second photographers or assistants, an additional $50 to $75 per person is an appropriate and nice gesture.

What questions should we ask wedding photographers?

Aside from logistical questions about packages, pricing, and availability, it’s also important to use your conversation to get a sense of their personality. This person will be with you and your loved ones every step of your wedding day, including, if you want, in the dressing room! It’s very important that you and your partner both feel comfortable with them and their working style. Talk about your venue, how you want to feel when you look at your photos, and which photos from their portfolio you like best.

Gabriella was always very responsive and clear in the messages sent via the online portal when we had questions. I was a bit hesitant to book this vendor because I didn’t know anyone who’d used the company before, but I’m glad I did. We were lucky to get paired with Jared as our photographer and immediately felt comfortable with him on our virtual planning call. On the day of our wedding he was prompt and had plenty of ideas ready to go, but he was also very open to any ideas we had. He never made us feel rushed at all as you could tell he wanted to take his time to get the shots right. He was patient when necessary, efficient when necessary and always reminded us to let him know if any poses didn’t feel comfortable or natural. We didn’t have a second shooter but you wouldn’t be able to tell by looking at our photos as Jared managed to get great variety in the angles during the ceremony and reception. The photos are beautiful and we are looking forward to framing a few. We got the sneak peak within 2 weeks and the full photo gallery not too long after that. The only critique I have is that the florist we used was incorrectly tagged on the sneak peak instagram post, and wasn’t corrected even though I reached out via direct message and comment. The flowers were beautiful & the correct florist deserved the credit. Overall, I would definitely work with Sound Originals and Jared in particular again in the future.”

“I couldn’t say better things about Marilyn if I tried. She was the first photographer who’s portfolio we fell for in our search, and while trying to budget and explore other options, we made our way back to Marilyn and questioned why we ever even bothered looking anywhere else. We did a round of engagement photos with her first, after an initial zoom to meet and get to know her. From the zoom alone we could tell right away what kind of sweet, wonderful, magical person she was. I felt like I was talking to an old friend immediately. During our engagement shoot, which myself and my now husband were SO nervous for (we are both awkward and camera shy, and I don’t know how to stop running my mouth during photos because of it) she made us laugh SO many times and immediately melted our anxieties away. We knew we made the perfect choice in a person to take care of us on our wedding day in that moment. We have so far received our previews, and we are simply in love. Marilyn captured intimate moments, fun moments, and beautiful, emotional moments that helped us feel like we were reliving our day all over again. She guided us through the day, took us to the best spots, got the photos we asked for, all without either of us having to think about a single thing or logistic at any point. She was on it. She is and was such a treat and added the kindest most comforting attitude and energy to our day, and all of our family and bridal party agree along with us (we got quite a few “where and how did you find her??”s). We also added a second shooter via Marilyn (who was also sincerely lovely) for just one hour, during our pre-ceremony and ceremony, for a little extra coverage and timeline speed, and a roll of film which was so much fun too. If you love artistic and stylized photos, and are seeking someone with both a great eye and wonderful, calming presence, I mean it, look no further. We are so happy we found Marilyn.”

Photography has always been a lifelong passion of mine, I picked up my first camera as a gift from my dad when I was 14 years old. Never in a million years would I have thought that my lifelong hobby could eventually become my career. I focused on my future, working my way through college and grad school to achieve my license to practice, but a part of me realized that I wanted to pursue a career that allowed me to go on adventures and meet a lot of new people. So in 2019, I took that risk, changed my hours from full time to part time and put more focus on my photography. I booked my first gig later that year and have never looked back.

For our engagement session, we wanted to recreate the Japan vibes since we got engaged there, but we weren’t sure how Little Tokyo in Downtown LA would translate in photos. Randall completely exceeded our expectations. Between the Venice Canals and Little Tokyo, he perfectly captured the aesthetic we were hoping for, and the final shots were stunning. “My wife and I cannot recommend Gabriella enough! We met Gabriella at my best friends wedding a few years ago when she was their photographer and loved her! Since then, we’ve been able to establish a wonderful relationship with Gabriella as she did our engagement photos (which were STUNNING) and helped us with all things planning for the wedding! Gabriella was so helpful in creating the timeline for our wedding, sharing vendor recommendations, and honestly just overall calming any nerves we had leading up to the wedding! Gabriella goes above and beyond her job as a photographer. When she first photographed my best friend’s wedding, Gabriella actually helped myself and the other bridesmaids with getting dressed/last minute touch ups. Gabriella and I also had bonded about our love of all things Taylor Swift. When she shot our engagement photos, Gabriella blasted Taylor the entire time to help us feel even more comfortable behind the camera! Unfortunately, my wife broke her ankle badly right before the wedding, and was in a boot and on a scooter on the day of. Not only did Gabriella adapt, she also offered a complimentary session once my wife is healed! On the wedding day, Gabriella and her team were so supportive and flexible given my wife’s injury and her ability to take photos. They literally carried her scooter on a golf cart across the venue grounds so we could get the shot! Just a couple examples of how above and beyond she and her team went throughout our entire experience working with her. On our wedding day, we were honestly as excited to see Gabriella as we were our guests- she felt like a friend at that point, and she gives off the kindest, warmest and most positive vibe. Her team on the day of was wonderful- Gabriella, Sarah, and Sam documented the day so beautifully and were prepared and calm, cool, and collected throughout the entire day! Our package included mobile videos taken throughout the day which were SO perfect to document little moments and look back on and share with friends and family! We also have an anniversary session with Gabriella included with we are so excited about!! We have and will continue to recommend Gabriella to anyone and everyone!”
