I’m Jessica, the owner, cake designer, and baker behind Louisa’s Homemades. Louisa was my middle name growing up, so I revived this family name through my business. I come from a food family with two Grandmas who will not take “no” for an answer when asked if you’d like something to eat! I fell in love with baking as a child, creating and tasting treats with my Grandmother for family celebrations. Whenever we would bake something together she would always tell me to “pat it with love,” and it is this sweet phrase that inspired my business.

The Red Bandana is a happy, healthy little bakery in Bethesda, MD. We like to make people happy with celebratory dessert food but we don’t want to feel guilty about what we’re feeding them so we try to make it as good for their body as it is for their soul. Owner/operator Jaimie Mertz went to culinary school in 2011 with the plan to become a pastry chef, and a year later doctors put her autistic brother Jack on a gluten-free casein-free diet to try to help with some behavioral issues.

I have been honored to be part of the Charlottesville and Central Virginia local food community since 1993, working as a chef, caterer, baker, barista, and farmer. Deborah grew up cooking with the matriarchs of the family, and now shares those Caribbean rum cakes, Lemon pound, and Brown Sugar pound cakes.

I fell in love with cakes at an early age. As a young man, I started playing around in the kitchen, now 15 years later KSR and Cakes is a full-blown business that includes floral design and decorating. I’ve created hundreds of cakes for a variety of events, including celebrity cakes for Treg Songz, Ms. April (Trey Songz's mother), Erica Dixon and DJ Babey Drew from Love and Hip-Hop and Wendy Raquel-Robinson from The Game.

Mavis Bakes started off by making cakes and bread for families and friends during their birthdays and other holidays. Eventually, my friends and families started referring me to other people who enjoyed my craft.
