E is short for Erin who has loved to bake since her grandma first tied her apron strings when she was little! The Red Bandana is a happy, healthy little bakery in Bethesda, MD. We like to make people happy with celebratory dessert food but we don’t want to feel guilty about what we’re feeding them so we try to make it as good for their body as it is for their soul. Owner/operator Jaimie Mertz went to culinary school in 2011 with the plan to become a pastry chef, and a year later doctors put her autistic brother Jack on a gluten-free casein-free diet to try to help with some behavioral issues.

What started as a hobby has turned into my passion. My mom was my inspiration to begin turning my hobby into my dream job. I am self taught and have learned on the way how to perfect my edible art. I never imagined beginning a career in the culinary industry, but after creating my son's 2nd birthday cake 19 years ago, I fell in love and hit the ground running.

I have been honored to be part of the Charlottesville and Central Virginia local food community since 1993, working as a chef, caterer, baker, barista, and farmer. Now I am using my experience and knowledge of our area, its venues, farms and resources to create one of a kind, delicious desserts. Officially opened in 2021, Pinch & Peck Bakery is a small but busy home-based bake shop located in Herndon, VA. Although Pinch & Peck specializes in custom sugar cookies, the bake shop also includes rotating flavors of cookies, cupcakes and assorted baked items.
